Christmas Movie Review: Christmas Plus One (2022)

November 10, 2025 by Eva Marie Everson

“From the moment you were born,” a wise woman once told me, “and from the moment he was born . . . God began to move you toward each other.” Those words of wisdom came from Joan Zimmerman whose true story I told in my book Five Brides.

Thus is the story also found in Christmas Plus One. Cara Martin is headed to NYC, which is also home, for both Christmas and her sister’s wedding. But “fate” intervenes when flights are cancelled and rental cars are all gone. So, she hitches a ride with Chace, the man who rented the last car available.

During the ride to the city, Cara and Chace learn that they have a lot in common. They go to the same places in the city during the holiday, they like the same kind of music . . . so naturally, Cara invites Chace to be her “plus one” at Amy’s wedding. He gives her his number, which she puts in her phone. After he walks away, Cara does a little happy dance, drops the phone just as Michael walks by. Unfortunately, Michael–a magazine writer with an assignment to find the top 10 best hidden things to do in the city during Christmas–kicks the phone into the sewer.

Feeling guilty, Michael decides to help Cara find Chace . . . and Cara decides to help Michael find all the great things to do in NYC (those hidden gems) during the season. But when Cara finally finds Chace, she has to ask herself: is he the one God brought to her? Or is Michael?

Bookstore: Not that I remember, but I was taken back to all the fun things to do in NYC during Christmas that have nothing to do with Rockefeller Center, the Rockettes, or Broadway.

Hot chocolate/cocoa: Double Peppermint Hot Cocoa! Double-shot, Double-whipped cream, candy cane, eggnog latte! So YUM!

Bakery: Pete’s Cafe . . . I so want to go there! And there are Christmas cookies.

Cute kid or pet: I don’t remember one.

Ornament Rating: 4.5 out of five shiny red ornaments!

I watched Christmas Plus One on Hulu. You can watch the delightful trailer at YouTube by clicking on the link in the first paragraph.

Haven’t seen this one but sounds cute, she has my name but spelled differently 😉 Wishing it was on Amazon Prime instead.
