I saw the ad for Last Christmas several times as I opened up Netflix and, given what I saw, decided it would be my next review. I knew it wasn’t going to be a typical Hallmark-type Christmas movie, but I thought it was good to stretch a little in my holiday viewing. After all, not everyone likes the typical rom-com type of holiday flick. And the ad said the movie was a new rom-com classic.
I was 17 minutes in when I realized this really wasn’t the average Christmas movie. Like . . . really. Really, really.
But stay with me. This will be worth it.
At one point, probably about 18 minutes in, I thought to “change the channel.” I’m so glad I didn’t!
Emilia Clarke (with her expressive eyebrows) plays Kate, a total screwup if there ever was one. She has dreams of being a stage singer and works half-heartedly toward that. But along the way, she manages to upset or destroy every relationship, including that of her family. Henry Golding plays Tom Webster, a young man who bicycles into Kate’s life with one very important word of wisdom: Look up . . .
Tom is mysterious but he helps Kate find her purpose in life. To sing, yes . . . but her success may not come as she expects. And all those relationships she has destroyed, by her own character, she can restore.
That’s all I’m going to say about Last Christmas, which is based on the song by George Michael & Wham!. There are moments when you will laugh . . . and one in particular when you will cry. If you don’t, you simply don’t have a heart.
Bookstore: Seems I remember a bookstore. I think it was a bookstore. I can’t remember. But I will tell you that there is a FABULOUS over-stocked Christmas store.

Hot chocolate/cocoa: Again, not sure. I’m still a little swoony over this movie.
Bakery: Still not sure, but the setting is London. I was in London during the Christmas season 2 years ago and the scenery brought back the best memories!
Cute kid or pet: No. Not this time. Except that you do see Kate as a child at the film’s opening.
Ornament Rating: 4.5 out of five shiny red ornaments!
I watched Last Christmas on Netflix. You can watch the trailer by clicking here: Last Christmas Trailer
This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Honestly, I had to watch it twice to really understand what was going on. Challenged my heart ♥️ Thank you endorsing it.
I am so glad you commented so others can see or read what I’m talking about. The ending!!! Ohmygosh. Just so beautifully done. And all the issues I questioned in the beginning became so clear throughout.
I grew tired of it and quit. Maybe I should give it a few more minutes.
As I said, I was so glad I stuck with it.
Thanks for the referral. I need a new option. And, I am intrigued!
